Flame detection is preferred when fire moves to flame phase from incipient phase quickly or open areas where optical smoke detection is not possible. Optical sensors detect electromagnetic radiation that flame emits in the infrared (IR), visible light, and ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths and transmit alarm data to central control station. Hazardous areas which have high explosivity and/or fire risk uses special flame detectors to minimize intervention duration. False alarm rate, detection range, external factors affect etc. are most important criteria about proper product selection.
